About Course

The purpose of this material is to guide and prepare you for the Ontario Security Guard Exam. The Ministry of Solicitor General requires new Security Guards to attend a training program which consists of 40 hou~rs in-class lessons and training.

The purpose of this material is to guide and prepare you for the Ontario Security Guard Exam. The Ministry of Solicitor General requires new Security Guards to attend a training program which consists of 40 hours in-class lessons and training.

Lecture
Quiz (Section 1)

Code of Conduct & PSISA
The Ministry code of conduct is be followed and exercised by all security personnel. In section 2 we will explore the responsibilities of a security guard under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act.

Basic Security Procedures
In this section, we will cover the basic security procedures that cover the core responsibilities of a security guard. As a security guard, you will face challenges throughout your stationed environments.

Note Taking and Report Writing
A notebook is arguably a security guard’s most important tool – it is used on a daily basis to provide an account of the events that unfolded on that day.

Health & Safety (Ontario health and safety standards)
As a security guard, the policies and procedures of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) are necessary to ensure the occupational safety of both you and those you interact with.

Emergency Response & Preparation
Any threats or breaches of security should not be taken lightly. Your job is to prevent such incidents happening, but also remember you cannot prevent all security breaches.

Canadian Legal Systems
Security guards work within the Canadian Legal System. They need to be familiar with the Criminal Court System, the Ontario Evidence Act, the Canada Evidence Act and how these apply to their positions to ensure the information they obtain is admissible in court.

Effective Communications
In the security field, there are various methods of communication used while on duty. As a security guard, it is your responsibility to understand how to use the communication equipment available to you.

Sensitivity Training
We all work in a multicultural society; issues of racial bias, prejudice and discrimination exist. As a security guard you will face social injustice issues on a daily basis.
